From age three, Dr Adam Nosworthy knew he wanted to practise medicine. He grew up in the Vaal Triangle and studied at the Wits Medical School, where he graduated in 1996. Adam completed his internship through Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH).

At the time, his passion for internal medicine grew while working as a medical officer in the Department of Medicine. He chose to specialise in internal medicine and spent the following four years as a registrar, rotating between Helen Joseph Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

Adam was appointed as a registrar representative during his final year, the equivalent of a Chief Resident in the USA, where he represented the registrar body on various academic committees. Adam was awarded the Jock Gear Memorial Award for all the contributions made to the registrar committee.

Shortly after, Adam joined the Medical Oncology division after he completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology in 2004 and continued to work in the public sector till 2012. Adam worked in private practice at the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre between 2004 and 2022. Afterwards, Adam moved to the northern suburbs of Dunkeld in Johannesburg, where he and Owen share a Medical Oncology practice linked to Dr Duvern Ramiah, a radiation oncologist.

Adam is active in the oncology professional societies, serving on the executive of the South African Society of Medical Oncology (SASMO) for a total of eight years and headed two SASMO conferences. Adam was appointed board member of the South African Oncology Consortium for approximately ten years and was selected as chairman and founding member of the AICF for eight years. The AICF is a non-profit organisation that helps find innovative ways to fund cancer research.

Adam has a passion for clinical medicine and thoroughly enjoys helping patients navigate the journey of cancer treatment. He is particularly interested in cancer of the respiratory tract, head and neck cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. However, he diagnoses and treats all types of cancer. He is especially interested in the vast opportunities immunotherapy offers. Adam is also appointed director of the clinical trial unit at Nosworthy Oncology.

IT IS SAID

that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperilled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperilled in every single battle.
